NIA Code of Ethics

All Certified Senior Appraisers with the National Institute of Appraisers (NIA) are required to adhere to a strict code of ethics and are completely free of conflicts of interest. This is critical for your protection and ensures accurate evaluations.

NIA Appraisers Can Not:

  1. Be a principal or an employee of an auction house or art gallery
  2. Charge fees based on a percentage of the appraised value
  3. Charge fees based on an hourly rate
  4. Offer to buy or sell your property
  5. Have any other hidden interests
  6. Release client or appraisal information to any 3rd party without prior consent of the client

NIA Appraisers Can:

  1. Assist you in locating Restorers or Conservators
  2. Provide transportation and storage advice
  3. Support the ongoing curating of large private, corporate or municipal collections
  4. Provide personnel for educational lectures and seminars

Every client has different motivations for selling and as such we don't offer pricing on the pieces clients sell

If you are looking for the value of your limited edition artwork -- we have a $50 charge for certificates of value if you provide the title, the number of your piece, and an image of your artwork.  Original one-of-a-kind pieces require a formal appraisal.  Please see our Appraisal Services page.
