An avid reader of philosophy, Medina refers to Nietzche's words "God is
dead". Medina contemplates the idea that modern day "miracles" of
science may have driven us to stop believing in God. But the artist
ponders if we created and then destroyed an idea of God or has he always
been there just watching us. However, as the female figure covers her
eyes, do we not also avert our eyes when staring into an empty eye
socket in the face of an idea we created: Is the emptiness in the idea
of God or is it in us. "EYE of GOD was exhibited in the 2000 Salon
Nacionale des Beaux Arts exhibition held at the Louvre |

MARBLE DREAMS
Original Painting - Oil on Canvas
39" x 63"

$32,500 or best offer
Price Reduced to
$25,000 or best offer
Marble Dreams depicts a female figure that seems to be evolving from
stone to flesh from the relief. This evolution and her dynamic movement
reflect her ability to dream and hope of being able to fly about her
world, as she knows it. She focuses her gas to her right to see winged
male figure, solidly portrayed in marble. The irony is that this is the
static, unchanging winged figure that will never know flights and
freedom, rather it is the wingless gigure that shows us she is growing
from one being to another, who seems most likely to float about and away
from composition. Third figure placed in the center of the composition
sits with her head covered. She is ambivalent to the constraints of her
marble world and reticent to exercise the newfound freedom represented
by her flesh. Medina presents three choices with which the viewer can
identify. The answer is left to the viewer |

OTHER EDGE OF THE SEA
Original Painting - Oil on Canvas

Price Reduced to $25,000 or best offer
Man has always established the limits of his known world at the other
side of the sea. However, man himself views his own potential as
limitless. These two thoughts are best represented by The Age of
Discovery in the l5th and l6th centuries during which man felt he had
the ability to sail to the other side of the sea and return. In doing
so he expanded the limits of his own physical world. The equation works
the other direction as well. Man's believe in his own boundless
capabilities leads to great achievements and his great achievements
further reaffirm his belief of his own potential for experiencing life.

Secret
Freedom
Original Painting - Oil on Canvas
47" x 29"
Price:
$26,250 or best offer
Price Reduced to $25,000 or best offer
The secret to being truly free is in facing our fear of exploring our
inner frailties. However, these fears are assigned to a "book" that we
write ourselves and because we do not want to face these shortcomings,
we put them into a book that is impossible to open. The artist
represents this in the floating volumes of books that are inexplicable
melded so that no one can open it. This illusion can be easily overcome
by drawing on one's courage and willingness to read what is inside |

Transforming Time
Original Painting - Oil on Canvas
36" x 29"
Price:
$23,750 or best offer
Price Reduced to $16,000 or best offer
People think that time fades away. Medina feels that on the contrary,
time is a constant immutable force. The march of time never alters from
its persistent pattern. It is we, we are altered in the course of this
force. However, man feels he or she can be defiant in the face of
time. The female figure raises and shows her hands proudly, as if to
say she is in control by virtue of the fact that her hands are the same
hands that can make a clock. As she assumes this attitude, she is
oblivious to the fact that it is she who is changing from marble to
flesh and back again all within an amorphic mass. All she can do in
reality is to measure the time's passing of which she is the final
victim. |
